Deerfield, 21 miles north of the loop, is an upscale, family community where quiet residential areas mingle with an active and attractive business district.
The community has taken advantage of the Lake Cook and Waukegan corridors to grow commercially. Recently, the village has completed 30 acres of redevelopment, including 56 rental apartments and 160 multifamily units. A nice selection of chain stores as well as unique specialty stores accommodate Deerfield shoppers, and the communities central location makes it convenient to a number of major malls.
The Deerfield Park District is reputed to be one of the most efficient and varied in the Chicago area. To begin with, no home in Deerfield is more than a half mile from a park. Facilities include a large community center, 21 parks and playgrounds, two public swimming pools, tennis courts, a public golf course, and a number of playing fields, basketball courts, and running tracks. The park district also offers an impressive variety of classes and programs for people of all ages.
Schools: Deerfield schools are some of the best public schools in the state. Elementary students regularly score near the top of the state’s schools in the IGAP test, and Deerfield High School students score above the national average on the ACT exam.
Deerfield Elementary District 109 consists of four elementary schools and two junior high schools.
Deerfield High School in District 113 is one of the top ten academic schools in the state. A small percentage of Deerfield students attend District 125. Adlai Stevenson High School in District 125 has been a recipient of the state’s “Excellence in Education” award.
Transportation: Getting around is easy with the Edens Expressway (I-94) nearby and the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) just west of the village. The Loop is a 45 minute drive, Chicago O’Hare airport is a 20 minute drive, and Chicago Midway Airport is 50 minutes away.
Rail commutes may board the Milwaukee Road line in Deerfield, or the Metra in Highland Park. The Loop is a 39 minute trip by express or 48 minutes by local. Bus lines travel to the surrounding suburbs.
