Wheeling Information

Located just 35 minutes north of the Loop, the Village of Wheeling has seen unprecedented growth and development in the last three decades.

Wheeling offers beautiful residential communities. Homes in these communities vary in age and style, allowing many different choices to Wheeling’s residents. From the older, tree-lined streets to well-maintained condominium developments to rental apartment complexes, there is something in Wheeling for everyone.

There are many companies that offer a wealth of jobs in the Village of Wheeling. The number of employees in the Northwest suburbs has grown at a rate of almost 50 percent per decade for almost 30 years. Some of the major employers in the immediate area include FedEx, Solo Cup Co., Target, and Wal-Mart.

Wheeling is within close range of many shopping centers. Golf Mill, Randhurst, Hawthorne Center, and Northbrook Court can all be reached in a short drive. Within the Village of Wheeling, about a dozen different shopping centers can be found, and the village is planning to build more.

The Wheeling Park District offers many different programs to residents of all ages. For children, there are a variety of sports including basketball and baseball with camps held with members of the Chicago Bulls and the Chicago White Sox. There are also many camps, dance programs, and educational activities planned for kids.

For adults, the park district offers a variety of sports and art programs. There are 10 parks located within the park districts boundaries, three recreation centers, a country club, an aquatic center, and a senior center.

Schools: Elementary school and middle school students can attend classes at either Community Consolidated School District 21 or Prospect Heights School District 23.

High school students can attend either Wheeling High School or Buffalo Grove High School in Township High School District 214.

Transportation: Accessibility is one of Wheeling’s greatest assets. The Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Illinois Route 53 provides access to other major highways including the Kennedy Expressway (I-90). A drive to Chicago O’Hare Airport will take about 20 minutes, while a trip to Chicago Midway Airport will take about 50 minutes.

Rail commuters can board the North Central Line at the Wheeling station for a 45 minute commute into the city. Bus service, provided by Pace, is also available.
